Volunteer Hairdresser
SKILLS
FULL DESCRIPTION
Volunteer Hairdresser
You would be offering ad hoc hair appointments to Noah's Ark families in the community, in their homes. Living with a child’s diagnosis can place considerable strain on the whole family, and coping with the constant demands of care often means parents/carers’ needs get dropped to the bottom of their list. A good hair cut or blow dry or even a wash can help raise someone’s self-esteem and bolster their sense of wellbeing.
What difference you will make
We are looking for skilled and compassionate volunteer hairdressers with a range of hairdressing experiences and backgrounds, including those experienced with different hair types, male & female clients and children.
Your time and talent will be helping uplift these families, making them feel cared for and valued.
What additional skills or experience you should have
- A minimum Level 2 NVQ in Hairdressing and 3 years hairdressing experience
- Must have public liability insurance
Also, all volunteers are required to undergo an Enhanced DBS Check and supply 2 character references for this role.
What training we will provide for you
All volunteers undergo an extensive training programme before starting in their role to give them the skills, knowledge and confidence to feel prepared. For this role, this includes:
Volunteer Information Session: All potential volunteers have to attend one of these sessions before they are able to support Noah's Ark in any capacity.
Interview: This will take place at the Noah's Ark Office or online at a mutually agreeable time.
Core Training: A full day of training on our approach to working with children and families including confidentiality boundaries, understanding grief and more.
Home Module Training: A weekday afternoon session to prepare volunteers for the specific requirements of the Home Support Volunteer role.
Safeguarding Training: One weekday evening, depending on the schedule, essential for ensuring the safety of our service.
What you will get out of volunteering for us
You will have an opportunity to make a real positive difference to the families of seriously ill children in the community. Time spent in your care while getting their hair done, will offer them a chance to relax, and feel looked-after. It will help strengthen your connection with your community and give you a real sense of accomplishment.
