FULL DESCRIPTION

Volunteer Caseworker in Manchester

Helping clients complete forms, including benefit applications, legal paperwork, or housing documents. Making phone calls on behalf of clients to government departments, service providers, or creditors. Advocating for clients by communicating clearly and assertively to resolve issues. Organising and reviewing paperwork, such as bills, letters, and official correspondence. Providing general administrative support, including note-taking, case updates, and follow-up actions. Where appropriate, offering practical advice based on life experience (e.g. running a business or household). Supporting clients in navigating bureaucracy and helping them feel more confident and in control. Knowledge of welfare and benefits is helpful but not essential—full training and support are provided.

Your involvement helps clients regain control, restore stability, and find clarity during moments of crisis. Whether it’s helping someone navigate debt, manage paperwork after bereavement, or advocate during a legal or welfare issue, your support can be life-changing.

You’ll also be part of a process that empowers clients not just to get through the immediate difficulty, but to develop the confidence and skills they need to move forward independently.

Strong administrative ability and sound judgement in managing day-to-day casework and paperwork.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with clients and professionals alike.

Clear and confident communicator, able to explain complex information in a simple, supportive way and advocate on behalf of clients when needed.

Proficient IT skills, including confidence with email, document handling, and case recording systems.

A warm, empathetic, and non-judgemental approach, with experience in providing client-centred support, especially to vulnerable individuals.

You set your hours at your convenience.

Volunteering with [Employer hidden — view at passion-project.co.uk] offers meaningful, personal, and practical rewards that go beyond just giving time.

You’ll have the opportunity to make a real difference by helping people through crisis moments such as bereavement, debt, divorce, or overwhelming bureaucracy. Your support can help prevent homelessness, reduce stress, and restore dignity.

Many volunteers find deep personal fulfilment in this work. Knowing that your time, knowledge, and compassion have helped someone regain control of their life is immensely rewarding.

Volunteering also helps you grow your skills — in communication, problem-solving, and advocacy — and builds confidence when working through complex, real-life situations.

You’ll become part of a committed and supportive team. Paperweight values and recognises the contribution of every volunteer through training, peer support, and annual appreciation events.

For many, it’s also a chance to give back to the community or support a cause close to their heart. By volunteering, you help sustain a unique and vital service supporting over 2,500 people each year.
