An international oil and gas operator is recruiting for an experienced Technical Safety Specialist, based in Aberdeen, for a minimum 12-month contract. The role involves providing technical safety advisory and assurance services, ensuring major accident hazard risks are effectively managed throughout the project lifecycle, from FEED through execution and handover to Operations.

Our client, an international oil and gas operator is currently recruiting for an experienced Technical Safety Specialist, to be based in their office in Aberdeen, with occasional offshore visits when required. The role will be minimum 12-month contract.
ROLE
The successful candidate will provide technical safety advisory and assurance services in support of a major project, during the define and execute phases. The role is critical to ensuring that major accident hazard risks are identified, assessed and managed effectively throughout the project lifecycle, supporting safe delivery from FEED through execution and handover to Operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Delivery of technical safety input to support integration of safety requirements within project design and execution.
- Provision of technical safety assurance input to support safe and compliant project delivery.
- Delivery of independent technical safety reviews across engineering disciplines and contractor deliverables.
- Provision of technical safety recommendations supporting regulatory compliance and operational readiness.
- Provide technical safety expertise and deliver specialist input to project engineering activities and decision-making.
- Provide technical safety input to design development and engineering decision-making.
- Ensure inherently safer design principles are applied throughout project phases.
- Provide technical safety input relating to the management of major accident hazards and barrier integrity
- Risk assessment and hazard management.
- Design and engineering assurance.
- Regulatory and Compliance support.
- Project Delivery Support.
- Contractor and Interface management.
- Key Deliverables:
- Technical Safety input to FEED and detailed design.
- Hazard identification and risk assessment outputs.
- Technical safety design reviews and action tracking.
- Safety Case / regulatory technical safety support.
- Demonstration of ALARP and major accident hazard controls.
- Project technical safety assurance reports and stage-gate inputs.
- Support for commissioning, start-up and operational handover documentation.
- The Technical Safety Specialist will support delivery aligned with key project milestones including: FEED completion; ES/EIA submission support; FDP / FID approvals; EPIC award and execution; Long lead equipment integration
REQUIREMENTS
- Degree-qualified in Engineering or relevant discipline (or equivalent experience).
- Extensive offshore oil & gas experience with demonstrable technical safety focus.
- Proven project delivery experience from FEED through execution and handover.
- Strong working knowledge of UKCS regulatory framework and Safety Case regime.
- Experience facilitating and managing structured risk assessments.
- Experience working with EPIC contractors and multi-discipline engineering teams.
- Ability to operate independently within a project environment.
- Offshore survival and medical certification desirable.
