Calling All Freelance Workshops Leaders & Theatre Practitioners

Freelance Workshop Leaders/Theatre Practitioners:

We have a number of paid opportunities year round in and around Scarborough for freelance workshop leaders and skilled theatre practitioners to deliver youth and community projects, our ongoing youth theatre activity, and a range of creative sessions in schools.

We are looking for individuals who:

  • Have experience of working with children and young people, particularly within a theatre or performing arts context.
  • Are confident in delivering workshops that engage, educate, and inspire creativity in education settings.
  • Can create open, inclusive, and safe spaces where participants feel empowered to explore their potential.
  • Are adaptable, creative, and committed to using the arts to support the personal, social, and creative development of children, young people, and adults in the community.

We're keen to meet people with a range of professional experiences from early career to established artists. You will lead workshops in local schools and with our youth theatre groups. You will play a key role in shaping the next generation of theatre-makers, helping them grow in confidence, develop collaborative skills, and cultivate their artistic expression.

 Further info:

  • Practitioners are paid between £25 - £40 p/hr based on the type/nature of the activity.
  • Practitioners are paid for their delivery time, and where relevant there is an additional fee for preparation.
  • Offsite work is paid at a higher rate, and standard mileage payments are offered.
  • Drivers are encouraged as well as people based in other parts of the county as we work right across North Yorkshire.

Workshop Assistants:

Lots of this activity also requires Workshop Assistants to contribute to the delivery of the sessions and support participants.

We are looking for individuals who:

  • Have a passion for theatre and the performing arts.
  • Enjoy working with children and young people.
  • Want to develop their skills as Workshop Leaders.

There are occasional opportunities outside of our regular onsite activity, however, most calls are on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday evenings, and Saturday mornings at the SJT.

  • Workshop Assistants are paid at National Living Wage.
  • Workshop Assistants will be paid more if their responsibilities increase.
  • Workshop Assistants are paid for their full call time.
