My client is a thriving primary school with a strong sense of community. As their SEMH TA, you will join a wonderfully supportive and friendly environment, that has over 7 WhoFoundWho candidates working there, who love working at this school.
Your main focus will be supporting a lively boy in Year 2 with SEMH and Speech & Language needs. They need someone who is confident and resilient (ideally some working knowledge of SEN/SEMH needs), that can be nurturing but at the same time, create fair but firm boundaries for the child. The rest of the time, you will be supporting other children in this Year 2 class – this is to promote independence in their children and discourage dependency on one person. This also gives you a bigger breadth of exposure of working with various SEN/EAL and SEMH needs.
They have a specialist resource base on site that specialises in supporting children with SEMH, that you will get some exposure to. It is the SENCO’s (a lovely lady who has been with the school over 3 years), goal to integrate this base with mainstream classes next academic year. You would also receive more extensive training, should your longer term goal be to support more in this provision.
They treat all candidates on a long-term basis like their permanent staff in regard to CPD. This includes weekly training sessions with the SENCO on different strategies, and where relevant/possible, drop-in sessions within the MDT (multi-disciplinary team) such as their Occupational Therapist, Educational Psychologist and Speech and Language Therapist.
With the SENCO’s vision and plans for next year, she hopes that every year group will have someone (i.e you), once given training, to run SEMH interventions down the line.
The ideal SEMH TA, will have some form of child related experience, however, if you are confident, resilient, empathetic, calm and collected under pressure and have a genuine passion for helping children overcome their barriers to learning, the school will consider you.
This SEMH TA is perfect for those considering careers in teaching/psychology/counselling and therapy to name a few!
To secure an immediate trial day with this lovely school, please apply with your up-to-date CV ASAP!
