A Pupil Referral Unit in Enfield is seeking a dedicated and resilient Behaviour Mentor to support students with SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs and extremely challenging behaviours. Many of the students have been involved in gang-related activities, knife crime, or have faced significant difficulties, and this role plays a crucial part in helping them make positive changes.

Responsibilities of the Behaviour Mentor:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support, helping students manage their emotions and behaviour effectively.
  • Establish firm boundaries while developing positive relationships based on trust and respect.
  • Act as a role model, encouraging students to engage in education and personal development.
  • De-escalate confrontational situations and implement behaviour strategies to promote positive outcomes.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and external agencies to ensure students receive tailored support.

About the Successful Behaviour Mentor:

  • Proven experience working as a Behaviour Mentor, SEMH Teaching Assistant, Youth Worker, or in a similar role.
  • A strong understanding of SEMH, trauma-informed approaches, and behaviour management strategies.
  • Confidence, resilience, and the ability to set clear expectations while demonstrating empathy and patience.
  • Experience supporting young people at risk of exclusion, gang involvement, or criminal exploitation.
  • A genuine passion for helping vulnerable students make positive life choices.
