Deaf School Teaching Assistant – Immediate Start – £17,550 – £20,500 per annum – Wandsworth, South-West London

WhoFoundWho is working closely with a lovely school for students aged 10-19 who are deaf or have speech, language and communication difficulties. The school is based in the leafy borough of Wandsworth and boasts fantastic facilities and an experienced, dedicated and supportive team of specialist staff.

About the Successful Deaf School Teaching Assistant

  • BSL Level 2 or above (or native BSL)
  • Experience working in a school or with children or young adults with hearing impairments
  • Experience or a good understanding of other special educational needs such as autism, ADHD, social emotional mental health and behavioural difficulties
  • A good understanding of the secondary national curriculum
  • A good level of written English
  • Be confident, approachable and caring
  • Have an excellent attendance record and good references
  • Be available to work 4-5 days per week

About the Deaf School Teaching Assistant Position – As a Deaf School Teaching Assistant, you will be responsible for:

  • Supporting the class teacher with the day to day running of the class
  • Helping to prepare fun and engaging learning materials
  • Encouraging positive behaviour throughout the school
  • Providing 1:1 and small group interventions to students who need additional support with signing and communication or other additional needs
  • Consistently enforcing and encouraging the school ethos and values
  • Providing well rounded academic, social, wellbeing and physical support to students
