English Teacher – PRU (Pupil Referral Unit)

We are seeking a committed and resilient English Teacher to join a well-established Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) from January 2026. This is a 2-day-per-week teaching position, with the possibility of additional days as student needs evolve. The role includes a small amount of RSHE, and all planning is fully completed, allowing you to focus on high-quality delivery and supporting learners effectively.

The successful candidate will work with students who require alternative provision, many of whom may have experienced challenges in mainstream education. This is a highly rewarding role where you will have a direct impact on improving outcomes for vulnerable young people.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging English lessons across KS3/KS4 within a small-group PRU environment
  • Support students with varied SEMH needs, ensuring lessons are accessible and purposeful
  • Maintain a calm, structured learning environment with strong behaviour management
  • Build positive, trust-based relationships to support students’ progress and confidence
  • Contribute to the wider PRU team and help drive positive engagement with learning

Essential Requirements:

  • QTS or strong English teaching experience in a secondary or alternative provision setting
  • Confidence teaching English Language and/or Literature at KS3–KS4
  • Strong behaviour management skills, with a calm and patient approach
  • Experience working with SEMH, PRU, or vulnerable learners (or willingness to learn)
  • A proactive and compassionate attitude

Desirable:

  • Experience specifically within a PRU or alternative provision
  • Training or understanding of trauma-informed practice
  • Flexibility to increase days if required

Why Join This PRU?

  • Supportive, specialist team passionate about improving life chances
  • Small class sizes allowing for meaningful student relationships
  • Staff wellbeing initiatives and professional development opportunities
  • Free on-site parking, canteen facilities, and a values-led environment
  • A chance to make a genuine difference every day

If you’re an adaptable and empathetic English Teacher looking to positively impact young people in a PRU setting, we’d love to hear from you.
