FULL DESCRIPTION
The Bricklayer will be responsible for laying bricks, precast blocks, and other building blocks in mortar to construct and repair walls, partitions, arches, and other structures. This role requires a keen understanding of building plans, specialized skills, and a commitment to quality and safety.
Responsibilities
- Analyzing and interpreting building plans to prepare for construction
- Interpreting work orders to determine the materials and equipment needed for each job
- Measuring distance from reference points to ensure precision in construction
- Calculating angles and determining vertical and horizontal alignment of brick courses
- Laying bricks using mortar as a binder and a trowel to level, ensuring strong and secure construction
- Fastening bricks or other building material using wire clamps or cement
- Working safely on scaffolds and swing stages at various heights, following all safety guidelines and regulations
- Utilizing a variety of hand and power tools effectively to perform basic construction tasks
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent: A minimum educational background that supports the reading, writing, and mathematical skills necessary for the role.
Technical Skills:
- Bricklaying Skills: Proficient knowledge in the materials, methods, and tools involved in bricklaying and construction
Physical Fitness:
- Physical Endurance: Ability to stand for extended periods and undertake strenuous tasks.
- Lifting Capacity: Must be able to lift 70 pounds, as the job will involve the handling of heavy materials.
Experience
- Industry Experience:
- 1+ years of direct bricklaying experience: The candidate should have hands-on experience in laying bricks, precast blocks, and other types of building blocks. This includes experience with the different types of mortar and bonding agents.
- Tools and Equipment:
- Competency in using bricklaying tools and equipment: Experience with trowels, levels, and other hand tools, as well as mechanized equipment like mixers, is essential for efficient and safe work.
- Teamwork:
- Collaborative work: Should have experience working as part of a team, coordinating with other construction professionals like carpenters, laborers, and site supervisors for successful project completion.
- Building Plans:
- Experience in reading and interpreting building plans: Must be comfortable with reading blueprints and executing work as per architectural or engineering designs.
