Trainee Building Surveyor
[Employer hidden — view at passion-project.co.uk] have an exciting opportunity for a trainee building surveyor. You will train and learn to become a professional building surveyor. Initially you will work across the building surveying, quantity surveying and project management sections of the business so you can learn how each of these disciplines contributes to a construction project. Your on-job training will be combined with academic study on a block release basis at university.
Responsibilities
- Shadowing and assisting each team / senior management to undertake aspects of required work
- Input and assistance on survey programmes spanning healthcare, residential, education and commercial sectors, as well as conservation / listed buildings
- Exposure to and involvement on projects including:
- New build
- Refurbishment
- External works – roofing, cladding and windows replacement
- School summer works
- Office fitouts
- Training to be provided to assist on condition survey works covering healthcare, education and PFI sectors
- Assisting the team in collating statutory applications (building warrant, planning, listed building consent)
- Developing design details and tender drawings
- Exposure to tendering processes – contract preparation and tender reporting
- Assisting the contract administration of projects listed above, including quality management and assessment of valuations
- Exposure to and shadowing of all types of professional survey work – schedules of condition, condition surveys and dilapidations
- Development of understanding of construction technology and defect diagnosis
- Assisting the team in the safe management of works in relation to CDM compliance including document preparation
Requirements
You should be hard working, enthusiastic and eager to learn. Previous experience of construction is not necessary; however, you will be expected to be reliable and must be a good communicator. A minimum of four Highers; with at least two Highers at grade B or higher. Various grade combinations from Highers and Advanced Highers will be considered. Nat 5 English and Mathematics are essential; Higher English and Mathematics are preferred.
