FULL DESCRIPTION

Trainee Quantity Surveyor

[Employer hidden — view at passion-project.co.uk] have an exciting opportunity for a trainee quantity surveyor. You will train and learn to become a professional quantity surveyor. Initially you will work across the quantity surveying, building surveying and project management sections of the business so you can learn how each of these disciplines contributes to a construction project. Your on-job training will be combined with academic study on a block release basis at university.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to the following:

  • Shadowing and assisting the quantity surveying team and senior management to undertake all aspects of cost consultancy work
  • Assisting and preparing cost estimates for different types of projects across several sectors
  • Assisting and preparing tender documentation including measurement of different work elements
  • Checking and reviewing returned tenders for projects
  • Assisting and shadowing of senior colleagues on post contract work – site visits, attending progress meetings, preparing and vetting contractors’ applications for payment, preparing cost reports, and agreeing measurement of variations
  • Exposure to and involvement in a wide variety of different projects including new build residential, infrastructure, healthcare, further education, hotel, commercial and historic buildings

Requirements

You should be hard working, enthusiastic and eager to learn. Previous experience of construction is not necessary; however, you will be expected to be reliable and must be a good communicator. A minimum of four Highers; with at least two Highers at grade B or higher. Various grade combinations from Highers and Advanced Highers will be considered. Nat 5 English and Mathematics are essential; Higher English and Mathematics are preferred.
