Design Engineer – Mechanical (CAB Design)

Job Purpose:

Be part of the team developing concepts, engineering, designing & validating our market-leading future products.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identifying needs, setting requirements& defining problems
  • Concept, design and detailing of systems and components
  • Communicating design & requirements to internal & external customers
  • Setting & overseeing the validation of the requirements
  • Product launch support, Problem solving through the product lifecycle

Essential & Desired Skill sets:

  • M/BEng in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with 5-7years relevant industry experience/ Manufacturing Process
  • Pressed component design, CAB Design, Vehicle Exterior and interior design, Welding procedures & design, Knowledge of vehicle regulations & standards
  • 6 Sigma, Understanding of variability and capability
  • Participated in FMEAs, risk & reliability analysis, Finite Element Analysis
  • Demonstrates an understanding of most of the key engineering systems/processes used including steel structures, hydraulics, electrics etc.
  • Has working experience of moldings, vac-forming, forming and fibre-glass usage.
  • Demonstrates use of tolerance stack-up
  • To provide field support in UK & overseas
  • Basic rounded Engineering knowledge, Engineering Change process and demonstrates an understanding of stress, strain & fatigue and manual calculations.
  • Design methodology taking designs through the product lifecycle.
  • Material specifications, Understanding of structures, basic hydraulics and GD&T.
  • Applies BS8888 and creates good-quality drawings.
  • Proficient in CAD, ideally Solid Edge.
  • Fastener technology, familiar with design fundamentals of multiple vehicles systems
  • Design for Manufacture & Assembly, DVP&R
  • Proficient in Microsoft office 365and accurate in BOM creation
  • Relevant experience/automotive knowledge including yellow goods
  • Working with customers& supplier develop & improve products
  • Demonstrates awareness of Cost/Quality/Time
  • Has working experience of interior and exterior trim, seating, door systems and similar operator interfacing features.
  • Working within regulatory constraint, HNC/HND/Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
