FULL DESCRIPTION

[Employer hidden — view at passion-project.co.uk] is seeking a Design Engineer with 4-6 years of experience to join their team in the United Kingdom. Responsibilities include designing mechanical systems, component design, working with suppliers, and adhering to industry standards. The role requires strong communication, problem-solving, and CAD skills.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Detailed knowledge of a wide range of mechanical engineering systems
  • Trucks, Yellow Goods, or related products, with low volumes and high complexity
  • Liaison with internal and external suppliers
  • Component design and development from concept to production drawing release
  • Designing for assembly and for manufacturing processes including welded fabrication, casting, vac forming
  • DVP&R (Design validation plan & report) generation
  • Understanding geometric tolerances in mechanical components
  • Understanding of quality processes
  • Demonstrates the ability to optimise quality/cost/timing
  • Experience of engineering change control documentation
  • Work to industry and Engineering standards and practices
  • Concept, design and detailing of systems and components
  • Team working and effective communications
  • Ability to work without supervision to agreed timescales, budgets and constraints
  • Ability to work in a multi-task environment
  • Draughting practices to BS8888 including GD&T
  • Working knowledge of regulations, British Standards and codes of practice relevant to the equipment being designed
  • Application of FMEA, VE and DFA as appropriate
  • Create and maintain Project Files with records of design calculations & assumptions

  • Responsible for the management, compliance and upkeep of the quality & environmental procedures, records and documents relevant to the role
  • Ability to design systems and components for heavy truck chassis
  • Close liaison/concurrent activities with internal/external suppliers/customers including securing Installation and Application Approvals
  • Compilation of Engineering Master Parts Lists and design release documentation
  • Contribute and advise on relevant product testing activities
  • Able to communicate effectively with all levels within the company (written / verbal)
  • Able to communicate effectively with external suppliers/customers
  • Demonstrable team skills as a member and as a leader
  • Essential requirement to work without supervision to meet agreed deadlines in both team and individual activities
  • Ability to produce, maintain and control work breakdowns and timing programmes
  • Ability to produce designs within agreed cost, weight and performance targets.
  • Contribute / advise on relevant product testing activities

The Design Engineer must accept an agreed level of multi-tasking and take responsibility for prioritising within agreed time scales whilst having an awareness of wider business issues where priority conflicts arise Responsible for the management, compliance and upkeep of the quality & environmental procedures, records and documents relevant to the role

  • Knowledge of vehicle regulations & standards
  • Detailed knowledge/experience of truck chassis systems including powertrain, hydraulics, braking etc.
