Position: Design Engineer – Mechanical
Experience: 4 – 6 years of experience
Qualifications: BE / B/Tech – Mechanical / Automotive / or Equivalent
Location: United Kingdom (UK)
Job Purpose:
Be part of the team developing concepts, engineering, designing & validating our market-leading future products.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Identifying needs, setting requirements & defining problems
- Concept, design, and detailing of systems and components
- Communicating design & requirements to internal & external customers
- Setting & overseeing the validation of the requirements
- Product launch support
- Problem-solving through the product lifecycle
Desired Skills:
- Basic rounded Engineering knowledge
- Demonstrates understanding of stress, strain & fatigue and understands manual calculations
- Design methodology taking designs through the product lifecycle
- Material specifications
- Understanding of structures
- Applies BS8888 and creates good-quality drawings
- Proficient in CAD, ideally Solid Edge
- Proficient and accurate in BOM creation
- Fastener technology
- Familiar with design fundamentals of multiple vehicle systems
- Design for Manufacture & Assembly
- DVP&R
- Proficient in Microsoft office 365
- Relevant manufacturing processes
- Relevant experience/automotive knowledge including yellow goods, Hydraulics, Chassis, Vehicle Integration, Vehicle Systems
- Working with customers and suppliers to develop & improve products
- Demonstrates awareness of Cost/Quality/Time
- Takes ownership of individual tasks and works within guidelines to resolve within the required timing without supervision
- Able to work autonomously.
- Able to work as part of a x-functional team
- Calls design reviews when required to seek feedback
Desirable:
- Pressed/folded component design,
- Welding procedures & design
- Working knowledge of hydraulics
- Knowledge of vehicle regulations & standards – machinery directive 1501
- 6 Sigma, Understanding of variability and capability
- 10+ years relevant industry experience
- Participates in FMEAs, FEA, risk & reliability analysis
