Senior Content Designer

A Senior Content Designer is an experienced practitioner who works on a complex or large-scale service, with minimal support. They work autonomously, influencing and mentoring others to design user-centred content to a high standard.

A Senior Content Designer is an experienced practitioner who works on a complex or large-scale service, with minimal support. They work autonomously, influencing and mentoring others to design user-centred content to a high standard.

They work on a multidisciplinary delivery team to design content that’s informed by their experience, best practice and evidence, and meets the client’s objectives as well as user needs.

They are visible contributors to a healthy user-centred design (UCD) community and culture at [Employer hidden]. They report to a Lead Content Designer.

Key responsibilities

As a Senior Content Designer, you will:

  • assure the quality of content delivery within your service team and contribute to [Employer hidden]’s content design standards
  • be accountable for the production of high quality, user-centred content
  • help delivery teams get a shared understanding of problems to solve and ideas to test
  • have good knowledge of how to make services accessible to everyone
  • audit services to identify accessibility issues with content
  • have thorough knowledge of the government Service Standard and how to meet it through content design best practice
  • demonstrate good habits for sharing and improving content
  • demonstrate experience in creating, iterating, managing and overseeing content across multiple channels
  • encourage teams to review and evaluate the effectiveness of processes and systems, and support them to iterate for improvements
  • build relationships with clients, earning their trust and understanding their needs
  • identify opportunities for new work
  • manage less experienced content designers
  • support the hiring and onboarding of content designers
  • contribute to a safe, supportive, healthy community of practice
  • represent content design publicly and internally

How we hire

Our hiring process is designed to be thorough, transparent, and supportive, guiding candidates through each step. The exact process may vary slightly depending on the role but these are the typical steps candidates can expect.

1. Application reviewed

Our talent team will review all applications, and while we may use AI to help speed up the process, a real human will always make the final decisions. Once reviewed, shortlisted applicants will be invited to a screening.

2. Talent Partner screen

This is a 25-30 minute call with someone in our talent team who is hiring for the role.

3. CV Hiring Manager shortlist

Once screenings have taken place the hiring manager will review the shortlist and invites to interview will be sent.

4. First stage interview

You may then be invited to an initial virtual interview which is usually with the hiring manager or a couple of members from the team. This is usually around 45 – 60 minutes and the format may vary depending on the role.

5. Final stage interview

If you progress, you’ll be invited to a final stage interview which is usually with two members of the team. The format varies depending on the role and this is usually an hour.

6. Final conversation (not applicable to every role)
