Technical Buyer - Cambridge - £40k-£50k (dep on exp)

An excellent opportunity for an experienced Technical Buyer to join a Cambridge based engineering development company.

Technical Buyer

We are seeking a Buyer for a Cambridge based world leading manufacturer of complex low volume bespoke special purpose scientific equipment, used in industries such as Semiconductor manufacture. The Buyer will work closely with the engineering team on project-based procurement, responsible for the supply chain management of vendors. This role would suit either a proven Technical Buyer with an Engineering background (must be able to read CAD drawings) or an Engineer looking to progress their career into technical buying (must have some exposure to procurement) The Buyer will be responsible for:

  • Managing and developing supplier relationships
  • Develop and implement effective sourcing strategies across the major technical categories
  • Identify and deliver further opportunities to reduce overall supply chain costs
  • Ensure quality, service level, price and supply logistics meet commercial and internal customers’ needs
  • Work closely with Engineering to ensure material is delivered accurately and on time
  • Attend regular project/production meetings and report material status to project team.
Requirements of Buyer:
  • Experience using MRP/ERP systems.
  • Experience of using SAP a distinct advantage
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • CIPS qualified (or the desire to do CIPS) an advantage
  • Experience in an electro/mechanical manufacturing environment an advantage
Essential skills:
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills, both written and verbal. Able to build strong relationships both internally and externally (internationally)
  • Recent and relevant experience within a technical purchasing role.
  • Strong analytical and organisational skills
  • Ability to create and administer a task priority list based on (changing) company needs
  • Ability to multi-task and perform under pressure, negotiating deadline dates as appropriate.
