About The Role

The Specification Technologist will play a key role in supporting the technical team by ensuring the accurate and timely delivery of specifications, labelling, and administrative tasks for customer accounts. This role will focus on delivering products that meet safety, quality, and legal requirements from concept approval to a successful launch.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Understanding of product specifications, labelling standards, and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to liaise with internal teams and customers effectively.
  • Ability to work confidently with retail customer systems and meet their technical requirements.

  • Proactive in identifying and resolving challenges to deliver accurate and timely results.
  • Provide administrative support to the Technical department to ensure the efficient management of customer accounts.
  • Accurately manage and maintain product specifications using retailer-specific systems.
  • Deliver technical documentation and compliance records in a timely and organised manner.
  • Ensure data and documentation are up-to-date and meet all customer and internal requirements.
  • Gain full competence with retailer customer systems to input and manage specifications and data effectively.
  • Work independently to ensure specifications are completed accurately and approved within agreed timescales.
  • Ensure all product labelling meets the required standards for safety, quality, and legality in line with customer and legal requirements.
  • Support the development of pre-packaged food products from concept approval through to successful launch.
  • Collaborate with the wider Technical and NPD teams to ensure products meet customer expectations and internal standards.
  • Ensure all specifications and labelling are in place before the launch of any new product.
  • Proactively manage timelines to ensure on-time delivery of all required documentation.
  • Act as a key point of contact for technical administrative queries related to customer accounts.
  • Build strong relationships with customers, ensuring all technical requirements are met to maintain confidence in the business.
  • Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders, including NPD, Commercial, and Operations teams, to ensure alignment on product and technical details.
  • Experience in a specification technologist or technical administration role within the food industry is highly desirable.
  • Competence with retailer specification systems (e.g., Tesco, Sainsbury’s, etc.) or willingness to develop this skillset.
  • Understanding of food safety, quality, and legal requirements, particularly in labelling standards.
  • Strong IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and retailer systems.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills
