IT Operation Technician
Vacancies exist for IT Operation Technicians. The role involves providing technological support, performing server backups, identifying solutions, configuring server systems, and administering networks.
JOB DESCRIPTION
- Provide staff with technological support, which includes troubleshooting operating systems, applications, and network issues, responding to queries.
- Perform routine IT server backup and recovery operations.
- Identify problems, prefer solutions and suggest Action Plans.
- Analyse systems and make recommendations to improve performance.
- Configure and set up new server systems.
- Administer, monitor and support internal/external networks, servers, e-mail and security systems.
- Setup of technology and configuration for the institution, academic and community events
JOB REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate must possess a minimum of a master’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline with at least five years of relevant experience.
Applicants with a bachelor’s degree and passion for technology and sound knowledge of technical systems may also apply.
Other required skills are:
- Reliable, numerate, methodical, meticulous, thorough and adaptable
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to work with staff at all levels in the University
- A willingness to work as part of a team with an approachable and helpful attitude, and capable of taking a lead role in a team when required
- Good at problem resolution; able to work on own initiative, but not afraid to take advice or escalate as necessary and to prioritise multiple, and often conflicting, demands
- Working knowledge of transmission media such as optical fibre, wireless and associated standards
- Practical experience with fibre and/or copper network diagnostic equipment
- Able to find, comprehend and apply appropriate technical information.
