Job Description
Role Overview
As the Compliance and Safety Engineer, you will ensure that our products meet all regulatory requirements and safety standards. You will conduct safety assessments, develop compliance strategies, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement best practices in compliance and safety engineering. You will also author our forward-looking compliance and safety strategy, keeping abreast of the future regulatory landscape for our current and future product areas, mapping out changes and updates, and highlighting any gaps.
What will you be doing?
- Lead the monitoring and interpretation of relevant industry regulations, standards, and guidelines related to current and future products in target markets.
- Define and document safety & compliance requirements to inform product development.
- Assess and manage technical, compliance and safety risks of new and existing products within the [Employer hidden — view at passion-project.co.uk] engineering team.
- Conduct safety and technical risk reviews (e.g. TARA, HARA, FMEA) of existing products, new concepts and prototype systems, producing hazard and safety reports, working with the wider Engineering teams to develop mitigation strategies to address them, where relevant adhering to standards such as IEC 61508 and/or BS EN 13849.
- Work with stakeholders through [Employer hidden] to build and implement internal safety assessment and design processes.
- Maintain the documentation and technical files required to evidence compliance and management of risk.
- Leverage standards where possible to provide a competitive advantage to [Employer hidden].
- Build the systems and capability of [Employer hidden] teams in safety, security and technical risk management.
- Assess or lead the assessment of new products for compliance to relevant legislation (e.g. Machinery, RoSH, REACH, RED, Cyber etc), utilising harmonised standards (e.g. ISO 12100, IEC 61508, BS EN 13849)
What are we looking for?
- A technical background - most likely an Engineering Degree or similar.
- Experience of safety and security related standards such as IEC 61508, ISO 26262, IEC62442, BS EN 13849.
- Experience of demonstrating the functional safety of complex systems.
- Experience conducting assessments such as: Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Threat and Risk Analysis (TARA), Hazard and Risk Assessment (HARA), Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOP).
- Experience in approvals for Europe and the UK (CE/UKCA) and North America (e.g. FCC/CISPR).
- Experience in risk management systems development and maintenance.
- Ability to work with a team of technical and non-technical personnel to deliver results.
- A proactive individual with a ‘can-do attitude’ who can work with only minimal supervision and who is not afraid to contribute their own suggestions and ideas to improve product safety.
