Complex Care Worker (Watford / Borehamwood)
We are recruiting experienced and compassionate Care Workers to support an individual living with motor neurone disease (MND) who is ventilator-dependent and has type 2 diabetes, alongside complex physical and mental health needs.
This is a highly rewarding role for carers who are calm, resilient, and confident in delivering person-centred, specialist care while maintaining dignity, safety, and professional boundaries at all times.
Care is delivered in the client’s home environment in Watford / Borehamwood, with both day and night shifts available.
About the Role
As a Care Worker in this complex care role, you will provide 1:1 support to a client with advanced neurological and medical needs. You may also support behaviours that can challenge, linked to mental health and emotional distress.
You will work closely with a multidisciplinary care team, following detailed care plans and risk assessments, and responding confidently to both medical and behavioural needs.
Duties
*Personal & Clinical Care*
- Supporting all activities of daily living (ADLs) including personal care, dressing, grooming, toileting, and continence care
- Providing ventilator care, including routine checks, responding to alarms, and following emergency procedures
- Operating a cough assist machine, monitoring effectiveness and reporting concerns
- Supporting diabetes management, including blood glucose monitoring, medication support, and dietary needs
- Assisting with medication administration, record keeping, and escalation of concerns
- Supporting safe mobility, transfers, repositioning, and hoist use
- Delivering catheter care and bladder washouts (experience or training required)
*Mental Health & Behavioural Support*
- Providing calm, empathetic support to a client with mental health needs
- Managing behaviours that may challenge using de-escalation techniques and person-centred strategies
- Offering emotional reassurance, structure, and consistency to reduce anxiety and distress
- Maintaining professional boundaries while ensuring the safety of everyone in the home
- Accurately documenting behaviours, triggers, incidents, and effective interventions
*Monitoring, Nutrition & Environment*
- Monitoring vital signs, ventilator function, glucose levels, skin integrity, and mental wellbeing
- Supporting nutrition, meal preparation, and feeding in line with diabetic and choking risk guidelines
- Maintaining a clean, safe, and comfortable home environment
- Responding appropriately to medical or behavioural emergencies in line with training and protocols
What We’re Looking For
- Experience supporting individuals with complex medical and mental health needs
- Proven ability to manage or support behaviours that may challenge
- Experience delivering high-quality personal and continence care
- Ability to work independently, follow care plans, and remain calm under pressure
- A driver (preferred but not essential)
- A compassionate, patient, and resilient approach to care
