The Senior Corporate Tax Manager will provide advisory and consultancy support on a broad range of corporate tax projects. Responsibilities include managing a portfolio of corporate tax clients, handling compliance work, identifying tax planning opportunities, and supporting the wider tax team. The role is approximately 80% advisory and 20% compliance work.

Senior Corporate Tax Manager

We are looking for an experienced Senior Manager to provide advisory and consultancy support on a broad range of corporate tax projects.

The Senior Corporate Tax Manager will have overall responsibility for the compliance work of a portfolio of corporate tax clients including large companies, owner managed businesses, groups and sector specific companies. The role will be approximately 80% advisory and 20% compliance work. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Working on a broad range of ad hoc tax consultancy assignments is a considerable part of the role. This may include reorganisations, R&D tax, share schemes, property hive ups, international tax etc.
  • Identifying tax planning opportunities and following these through with the Tax Partner and the relevant partners
  • Overall responsibility for the compliance function for a portfolio of corporate tax clients. This includes:
    • Preparation and review of corporation tax returns for a range of complex clients
    • Monitoring tax return progress to ensure timely completion and submission to HMRC
    • Advising corporate tax clients of tax liabilities due on a timely basis
    • Liaising directly with clients to ensure both accurate and prompt completion of tax returns and submissions
    • Communicating effectively with client’s both orally and in writing
    • Dealing with all client queries promptly and efficiently
    • Reporting to the client partner on all matters relevant to the client’s tax affairs
  • Management of Work in Progress and timely billing
  • Supporting the wider tax team and mentoring and developing junior members of staff
  • Travel to the Guildford office and client sites when required

What we are looking for

Qualifications and Experience:

  • CTA qualified or ACCA/ACA qualified plus relevant experience
  • Significant experience in a corporate tax role in industry or within a professional practice (Essential)
  • Experience of working in an accountancy practice (Essential)
  • Experience of managing own client compliance portfolio (Essential)
  • Experience of dealing with detailed HMRC enquiries (Essential)
  • Demonstrates ‘expert level’ of understanding of own technical/professional function
  • Experience of working on long term client relationships and of working on a fee basis with clients
  • Experience of managing people
  • Highly proficient in computer software
  • Knowledge of CCH and Alphatax would be advantageous, but full training will be given

  • Good communication skills with the ability to explain complex matters to clients clearly and concisely
