FULL DESCRIPTION

Test Technologist Control Systems

As part of the Structures Test Team, you’ll support both serial programmes and R&D activities by applying established engineering principles to develop new test rigs, methods, and tools. You’ll work across structural testing levels, contribute to process adherence, and help deliver high‑quality test outcomes.

    Primary skills

    • Strong knowledge of MOOG Control Systems (architecture, connections, calibration, PIO tuning)
    • Experience with Aerotest software (Test Manager, Test Explorer, SmartBAR)
    • Design, operation, and maintenance of servo‑hydraulic control systems

    Additional desirable skills

    • Operation of universal test machines
    • Experience with HBK Catman

    Core responsibilities

    • Support structural tests from material coupon level to large assemblies
    • Ensure compliance with Structures Test processes and transnational methods
    • Design and set up control and data acquisition systems
    • Design and set up hydraulic loading systems
    • Execute structural tests and calibrate equipment
    • Delivering technical specialisms through hands‑on lab and office work
    • Supporting structural test delivery
    • Contributing to innovation, sustainability, and improvement projects
    • Reporting progress to test leaders and customers
    • Coordinating internal and external stakeholders and suppliers
    • Managing subcontracting activities
    • Identifying and managing risks and opportunities
    • Sharing knowledge across the test centre
    • Participating in SQCDP and weekly team meetings
    • Supporting transnational collaboration with other test centres
    • Helping introduce new lean methods and ways of working
    • Feeding lessons learned into the wider 1ACMT team
    • Supporting development of training materials

    Required skills

    • Degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline
    • 5+ years’ experience in project delivery and one of: aeronautical structures, control systems, or structural testing
    • Experience in structures, materials, or systems testing (advantageous)
    • Experience managing or selecting suppliers (advantageous)

    • Proven delivery capability
    • Familiarity with G Suite
    • Interest in digital topics, hybrid testing, and simulation
    • English at negotiation level; additional languages are a plus

    Additional information

    You’ll report to the Head of Test Skills (UK) and work closely with test centres in France and Germany. Some European travel may be required.
