Principal Ecologist - North West (Ref PE25)

Salary: £42-50k (depending on experience)

Location: NW/ Manchester

Contract: FT/PT - can be flexible to suit

What you can expect

You would become an integral part of our growing consultancy. Working directly with the Associate Director for Ecology our existing team of ecologists, you would be leading our North West ecology team, managing projects and the North West ecology team, as well as costing and tendering for work.

This role would provide you with an opportunity to manage a wide variety of projects and develop skills in all aspects of consultancy including both project and business development as well as staff management. What we are looking for

We’re looking for a skilled and experienced ecologist who can help us deliver our vision by helping to lead and grow our North West ecology team.  Ecology is a core component of our business, providing support within the UK planning and development sector, whilst embracing emerging drivers including nature-based solutions, natural capital accounting and biodiversity net gain.

We would like you to have experience in ecological impact assessment and ideally hold one or more protected species licence and/or have a specific area of ecological expertise.  We are also looking for someone with a genuine enthusiasm for winning and delivering high quality work.

Team management experience is not essential although an aspiration to support, develop and inspire early career ecologists is important.

  • An honours degree in a related field
  • Membership of a professional institute
  • 5+ years professional experience
  • Protected species licences
  • Good understanding of most aspects of environmental assessment and underpinning legislation
  • Project management experience and commercial awareness
  • Full driving licence
