We're recruiting a talented Human Factors Engineer to join a leading engineering team delivering major rail signalling and ETCS projects across the UK. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in shaping safe, user-centred system design within complex, high-profile programmes.

The Role
You'll define and deliver Human Factors Integration (HFI) strategies, working closely with multi-disciplinary engineering teams to ensure systems are safe, intuitive, and meet both user and industry requirements. You'll lead assessments, influence design decisions, and support the delivery of compliant, high-performing rail solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and implement Human Factors strategies for ETCS and rail projects
  • Apply ergonomics principles to system and product design
  • Lead human factors assessments and develop management plans
  • Ensure compliance with Network Rail and relevant safety standards
  • Support systems engineering and safety assurance activities
  • Engage with stakeholders and contribute to design and safety reviews

About You

  • Experience in Human Factors within complex, safety-critical environments (rail preferred)
  • Knowledge of Network Rail standards and processes (or similar)
  • Understanding of ETCS / ERTMS systems
  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary engineering teams
  • Familiarity with safety assurance and common safety methods
  • Degree in Ergonomics or a related field
  • Working towards or holding professional chartership (e.g. CIEHF) is desirable
