Sustainability Consultant (Whole Life Carbon)

[Employer hidden — view at passion-project.co.uk] Ltd is an award-winning consultancy firm that works with some of the leading UK housebuilders and developers, delivering high quality energy and sustainability advice and assessments to the construction and property industries.

We're looking for an experienced whole life carbon consultant to join our growing team. This is a hands-on technical role at the heart of our WLC service. If you're detail-oriented, proactive, and passionate about sustainability, this is an opportunity to make a real impact while enjoying flexible working and career development.

You will be responsible for producing Whole Life Carbon assessments for a variety of residential and commercial projects, using One Click LCA software and working to frameworks including the London Plan, BREEAM, and other applicable standards.

You will collaborate closely with developers, architects, and design teams throughout the project lifecycle — providing clear technical advice, managing your own workload, and contributing to the continued development of AES's WLC offering.

The ideal candidate will be a collaborative team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of building effective working relationships with colleagues and clients. Good attention to detail is essential as the role requires a high degree of accuracy and organisation skills.

Job Responsibilities

  • Produce Whole Life Carbon assessments using One Click LCA software, in line with London Plan, BREEAM, and other relevant frameworks.
  • Manage and deliver a portfolio of assessments across domestic and non-domestic projects, meeting programme deadlines and quality standards.
  • Interpret technical drawings and specifications to inform accurate carbon modelling and reporting.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with clients, developers, architects, and design team members throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Prepare well-structured, accurate technical reports and client-facing outputs.
  • Maintain organised project records and support internal quality assurance processes.
  • Stay current with evolving WLC guidance, standards, and best practice, contributing to AES's knowledge base.
  • Support the wider sustainability team on related assessments and workstreams as required.

Please note: This list covers the core responsibilities but isn’t exhaustive. As the team continues to grow and develop, there may be additional opportunities to contribute and take on new tasks to support the department.

Preferred Qualifications, Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrate a strong technical understanding of building materials and detailed built-up assemblies — including wall build-ups, floor and roof constructions, construction methods, and material properties — this is central to WLC assessment.
  • Demonstrable experience using One Click LCA software to produce WLC assessments.
  • Strong understanding of Whole Life Carbon methodology and relevant frameworks (London Plan, BREEAM, etc.).
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy in technical outputs.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and 3D building information.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience liaising with clients or design teams.
  • Able to self-manage a varied and time-critical workload independently.
  • A team player — collaborative, supportive, and good-humoured under pressure.

Desirable

  • Background in architecture, engineering, structural, environmental science, or a related discipline.
  • Full, clean driving licence.

Our Benefits:

  • 25 days annual leave allowance, plus statutory bank holidays
  • 1 paid Community Day per year to volunteer in your community
  • Holiday purchase scheme of up to 5 days
  • Contributory company pension scheme
  • Company Sick Pay scheme
  • Staff social events
  • Flexible hours
  • Remote working
  • Life assurance
  • Electric vehicle scheme
  • Simplyhealth healthcare plan
