I start my day from home, and travel to my first job for 8am. I have access to a vehicle which is kitted out with all building materials and electrical plant that I would need to do the repairs work. I have been given a work mobile phone where all my jobs for the day are allocated. I usually leave my last job at about 4pm on Monday to Thursday and 3.30pm on a Friday. This means I can spend time with my family, meet up with friends or even relax for the evening. As I only work within the city boundaries, I spend limited time travelling. On occasion I work overtime in the evenings and weekends, but they always give me plenty of notice for this. I have been provided with all workwear and PPE including steel toecap shoes and waterproofs for those rainy days. If anything gets ripped or torn when working, I receive new clothing and shoes. Although it is lone working, I have a supportive team around me and technical support from my team leader who can advise me with difficult or complex works. There are so many benefits to working for the Council which allow me to have a good work-life balance such as · 5 weeks paid holiday entitlement per year – this will increase by another week after 5 years service; · 8 Bank Holidays off per year; · Staff discounts for shopping and gym memberships; · Ability to do compressed hours working to allow for a day off every week in agreement with management; and · Flexible working to allow me to collect my child from school when needed or manage other caring duties. The council are supportive of upskilling and providing development opportunities. They pay for refresher training for mandatory qualifications with time-off to do this. Most importantly I have guaranteed work so I always know what I am getting paid and job security. You'll need to have an NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation and City & Guilds 18th Edition BS7671, as well as hold a full valid driving licence. You'll also have Testing and Inspection 2391/52.
