FULL DESCRIPTION

Family Welfare Officer

To provide as part of a team a high quality and responsive support to children, young people and their families across a range of settings. To provide support in identifying interventions that can improve and support the well-being of children, young people and their families. The role requires the individual to use their own initiative, work in partnership with other agencies follow care and support plan as identified by social care and willingness to attend regular training.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • Diploma in any field. (OND, HND, BSc or BA)
  • A minimum of 1 year of Community work experience.
  • Effective record keeping skills.
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary setting.
  • Full Driver’s license.
  • Certification in the following courses: Recording and reporting in Social Care, Family Welfare.
  • Assistant Diploma, Operating as a Mental Health Welfare Worker, and Safeguarding Children.

SKILLS

  • Effective communication skills including good standard of written and spoken English.
  • To be able to record and report accurately.
  • Excellent active listening, problem-solving, and negotiating skills.
  • Good planning and organizing skills.
  • Computer knowledge / Typing is a key skill required for this role.
  • Good time management skills.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To provide support to children, young people, and their families in their homes or communities based on their care and support plans.
  • Encouraging and supporting children, young people and their families to participate in activities based on their care or support plans.
  • To provide basic welfare support e.g. housing and universal benefits, health, employment, managing relationships etc.
  • To support parents in ensuring children and young people meet their education and emotional needs.
  • To support children, young people and their families in the creation and implementation of their care and support plans.
  • To liaise with partner agencies in providing the support for children, young people and their families based on their care and support plans.
  • To work with partner agencies in ensuring children, young people and their families are safeguarded from danger, harm or abuse.
  • To report and document any concerns on the health and well-being of children, young people and their families.
  • To support children, young people and their families in becoming active members within their community.
  • To support children, young people and their families in engaging with appropriate professionals.
  • To attend and be an active participant in team meetings and with partner agencies.
  • To attend all scheduled trainings.
  • To perform other duties that may be required from time to time by your manager.
  • To have a responsibility to your own and others health and safety whilst at work.
  • To keep up to date with legislation.
  • To support young people aged 18-25 with housing needs.
  • To support families in ensuring safe contact between children and parents or relatives.
  • To work in partnership with coordinators of perpetrators programme.
  • To run classes on parenting.
