Volunteer Sports Assistant – Inclusive Archery

Overview

Inclusive Archery is for people of all ages with disabilities, special educational needs and long-term health conditions. Archery can be hugely rewarding for individuals that may not enjoy classic team sports and invasion games. We enable people to shoot in a variety of ways, to suit their needs, whilst enjoying the social atmosphere and improving fitness and wellbeing.

What type of activities will I be doing?

  • Preparing the equipment for use
  • Engaging with participants in a social environment
  • Helping participants to improve their fitness and confidence
  • Supporting and coaching individuals whilst they are shooting
  • Packing away equipment at the end of the sessions

What skills & qualities do I need?

  • An interest in exercise and leisure
  • Good interpersonal skills and able to relate to people with disabilities and their carers/parents
  • Reliable and trustworthy
  • Able to handle equipment which can be heavy

When will I be needed?

Fridays – 10.00am to 12.45pm

Volunteering at The Focus Centre, Chestnut Avenue, Peterborough, PE1 4PE

Role Specific training will include:

  • Process and procedures
  • How to use the Archery equipment and adapt them for the individuals
  • Emergency First Aid
  • Safeguarding
  • Manual Handling training
