Underwriter / Senior Underwriter – Marine, Energy, Terror Reinsurance

We are looking for an Underwriter or Senior Underwriter to join our Marine, Energy, Terror (MET) Reinsurance team. The exact level of the role is flexible to be catered to the candidates experience, but we expect them to have either Insurance, Reinsurance or Actuarial experience within Marine, Energy, or Terrorism classes of business.

What you’ll be doing

What will your essential responsibilities include?

  • Responsible for the day-to-day management and development of a designated portfolio.
  • A good understanding of the markets and clients, with the ability to target preferred risks within appetite.
  • Service day-to-day needs of existing clients, including handling of special acceptances, business development, and technical exchanges.
  • Preparing and conducting meetings with clients and brokers, often in a solo capacity.
  • Liaising with Actuaries, Finance and Contract Teams to deliver sound technical analysis.
  • Present business plans and individual risks to senior management.
  • Develop a solid understanding of the underwriting systems (Pricing, Destiny IR, Work Bench, Aggregate Monitoring tools) and liaising with our Global Shared Servicing team where necessary.
  • Assist the wider Business Group in developing the global MET portfolio.
  • Understand the strategy and financial targets of [Employer hidden — view at passion-project.co.uk] Reinsurance and those applicable to the business unit.
  • Monitor the Portfolio composition retaining a focus on diversification and peak risk exposures.
  • You will be set appropriate individual targets and goals that support delivery of the business plan.

You will report to the Global Head of Marine & Energy, Reinsurance based in London

What you’ll bring

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Proven experience of Specialty classes (Marine, Energy, and/or Terrorism) from an Insurance, Reinsurance or Actuarial background.
  • A personal drive for excellence, a track record of exceeding expectations and a flair for innovation.
  • Able to perform tasks according to established procedures, with some ability to exercise discretion.
  • Uses judgment to identify and solve day to day problems.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to think quickly and innovatively, always working in a disciplined manner.
  • You will be confident and comfortable to take personal responsibility for your work but will also be a excellent team player.
  • Be aware of the control processes that operate around an underwriting function and the need to comply with them.
  • Ability to perform portfolio analysis, with a good level of engagement in diversification and volatility management.
  • Ability to adapt quickly and easily to new conditions and requirements, externally in the market or internally within a changing Organization.
  • You will have good interpersonal skills and an interest in business development
  • Relevant professional designations
  • A high level of competency in Microsoft Excel is essential.
