The role of the Support Worker is to provide care and support to service users. Duties include ensuring safety, assisting with daily living, and supporting service users in achieving their goals.

The role of the Support Worker is to provide care and support to service users.
*Attitudes and Values*
- Respect the rights and choices of service users including privacy and confidentiality.
- Working sensitively in ways which uphold the dignity and status of service users and provide a positive atmosphere in the service.
- Develop an understanding of the issues and problems that people with learning disabilities experience.
*Service duties*
- Ensure the house is safe and secure at all times.
- Supporting service users in areas such as food preparation, domestic tasks, cleaning and kitchen hygiene.
- Ensure that security, safety systems, equipment, furniture and central heating systems are serviced to manufacturer’s guidelines and arrange repairs when necessary.
- Discussing household issues with service users.
- Keep up to date records and reports as directed.
*Service user support*
- Assist service users in cooking meals and ensuring a balanced nutritional diet.
- Assist service users to participate in all aspects of home and community life.
- Work as a key worker to creatively support service users in developing their individual Person-Centred Plan.
- Support service users to achieve their personal goals, aspirations and outcomes, as detailed in the Person-Centred Plan and service plan.
- Reporting suspicions of abuse and/or bad practice to an Operations Manager or on-call person at once.
- Ensuring service users attend regular health checks.
- Talking and engaging with service users.
- Helping service users liaise with friends, relatives and professionals.
- Participating with service user in leisure activities.
- Supporting service users to take medication, including supervision administration and recording.
- Support service users with budgeting and financial recording.
- Report any untoward incidents and accidents both in written and verbal form.
- Assist service users, if necessary, in making complaints.
- Assist service users in personal care when required (which may include bathing, washing, pad changing, dressing and oral hygiene).
- Restrain service users using approved PMVA techniques (only when required).
- Help Service users lead a lifestyle that is valued and respected.
- Look for opportunities to help develop skills and participate in their local community.

- Participate in training and keeping up to date with current trends and development.
- Working to Company, Social Services, CQC and Supporting People standards.
- Attending meetings as required.
- Working flexible hours as appropriate to the needs and requirements of service users and the service including sleep-in duties, waking nights and unsociable hours.
- Be aware of and demonstrate an understanding of all Company and house policies and procedures, including emergency procedures, contacting on-call staff, confidentiality, disciplinary and complaints.
- Be subject to regular appraisal and supervision sessions and achieve any personal objectives and goals within an agreed timescale.
*Personal Development/Training*
New employees regardless of previous experience will be booked onto mandatory training courses before starting work in a service. New Employees will be required to successfully complete the Support Worker Induction Pack and will then be able to work at some stage in the future towards a level 2 or level 3 Diploma in Health and Social care. Staff new to the care sector will be required to work towards the Care Certificate.
*Criminal Records Bureau Enhanced Disclosure*
All employees of New Beginnings are required hold an Enhanced DBS.
*What we offer:*
Hourly Rates: £11.45 to £11.60
Sleep ins – £95.00
Bank Holiday hourly rate: £15.50
Meals paid whilst on shift.
Simply Health – after 6-month probation claim money back up to a certain amount on dental, optical, prescriptions, plus counselling sessions.
6 weeks paid holiday per year pro-rata (inclusive of bank holidays) Ad-hoc accrue 1 hour per 10 hours worked.
