FULL DESCRIPTION

[Employer hidden — view at passion-project.co.uk] is seeking a Kitchen Porter Supervisor to lead and motivate the kitchen porter team, ensuring efficient cleaning and support duties. Responsibilities include supervising cleaning, managing dishwasher operations, enforcing hygiene practices, training new porters, and reporting maintenance issues. The ideal candidate has previous kitchen porter experience, supervisory skills, and a strong understanding of food hygiene regulations.

KEY AREAS OF ACTIVITY:

  • • To lead, supervise, and motivate the kitchen porter team, delegating tasks, monitoring performance, and ensuring all cleaning and support duties are completed efficiently, on schedule, and to the required high standards.
  • • To oversee and participate in the cleaning of all kitchen and food preparation areas.
  • • To supervise the cleaning of kitchen equipment, cooking utensils, and food trolleys.
  • • To manage and monitor dishwasher operations, including loading, emptying, and ensuring proper sanitization after use in the main kitchen.
  • • To ensure safe lifting and moving kitchen equipment is carried out in accordance with manual handling guidance by the team.
  • • To maintain and enforce hygiene practices across all catering-designated areas, ensuring standards are always upheld.
  • • To oversee and follow training guidelines for deep cleaning of kitchen structures, including heavy-duty machinery, and ensure the team adheres to structured cleaning schedules.
  • • To supervise the cleaning of rubbish bins and disposal of rubbish in line with requirements, including proper segregation and recycling.
  • • To manage the polishing of silver service items and ensure they are stored appropriately; oversee polishing of plates to the Chef’s requirements.
  • • To coordinate the erection and cleaning of gas BBQs as and when required.
  • • To ensure all clean items of kitchen equipment are stored in designated areas by the team.
  • • To implement and monitor duties in a timely, organized way according to the cleaning schedule, ensuring the team always adheres to food hygiene safety standards/procedures and COSHH regulations.
  • • To train new porters on procedures, hygiene best practices, safe chemical/equipment use, and support ongoing team development.
  • • To report any maintenance issues, equipment faults, or compliance concerns promptly to the Head Chef and follow up as needed.

KEY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • • Previous experience as a Kitchen Porter or similar role in a hotel, restaurant, club, or high-volume kitchen environment (essential); supervisory or lead porter experience strongly preferred.
  • • Solid understanding of food hygiene regulations, health & safety practices, COSHH, and commercial cleaning procedures (Level 2 Food Hygiene desirable; training provided if needed).
  • • Ability to lead and manage a small team, delegate effectively, and maintain high standards under pressure.
  • • Previous similar experience within a 5* luxury hotel, restaurant, or club environment is desirable.
  • • Interest and passion for maintaining excellence in hygiene, team performance, and kitchen support operations.
