Launching in September 2026, The Grove Golf Academy is an ambitious and innovative programme designed to offer Woodhouse Grove students of all abilities the opportunity to develop their golf within a school environment. With two state-of-the-art Trackman systems on site, access to a local golf course and driving range, and exceptional school facilities including a 25m pool, professional gym and elite training spaces, the Academy will combine world-class coaching with outstanding education. From complete beginners to accomplished Sixth Form performance players, The Grove Golf Academy will provide a structured, inspiring and aspirational golf pathway for every student. To lead this exciting new chapter, we are seeking an exceptional and visionary Head of Golf to become the inaugural leader of the Academy.
The Oppor tunity
This is a rare opportunity to build a flagship school golf academy from inception. The successful candidate will shape the vision, culture and long-term strategy of The Grove Golf Academy and embed golf as a central part of school life. Join our high-performing sports department, collaborating with skilled coaches across multiple disciplines to contribute to a proud tradition of sporting excellence and help athletes reach their full potential. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to share best practices, continue their own professional development, and contribute to the school’s ongoing sporting excellence, with golf as the exciting next chapter in our programme. We are looking for a fully qualified PGA Professional who is equally passionate about introducing young people to the game as they are about developing elite performers.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Programme Development
- Launch and lead The Grove Golf Academy from September 2026.
- Establish the Academy’s identity, values and performance culture.
- Deliver coaching across all age groups and abilities (Years 7–13).
- Oversee timetabling, programme structure and integration within the school day.
- Develop a clear and progressive golf pathway that integrates seamlessly with students’ academic commitments.
- Manage facilities including Trackman systems and training spaces.
- Manage the ordering and stock of all golf equipment held at the school.
Coaching & Player Development
- Deliver high-quality group and individual coaching on site and at local courses.
- Lead beginner group sessions and develop fundamental skills.
- Coach mid to low handicap players seeking competitive progression
- Design and implement bespoke programmes for Sixth Form performance players.
- Provide individual mentoring and structured performance reviews.
- Integrate strength and conditioning into player development pathways.
Sixth Form Pathways
Golf Performance Academy
- Deliver a structured Performance Programme tailored to elite golfers on a competitive pathway.
- Coordinate with the Academic Team to align timetables, manage workload, and support balanced dual-career development.
- Provide structured mentoring, performance planning, and competition management to maximise player development.
- Support players pursuing regional, national, and international pathways, preparing them for progression at the highest levels.
- Collaborate with parents and existing coaches regularly to support each student’s development within a team-based approach.
Golf Development Academy
- Facilitate skill development sessions during students’ private study periods, ensuring academic commitments remain the priority.
- Design and deliver tailored improvement plans using Trackman data and on-course analysis.
- Coach and support students on technique, short game and course management.
- Encourage independent practice habits and guide golfers to develop at their own pace.
- Promote golf as a rewarding hobby that complements academic and personal development
Key Responsibilities continued
- Organise friendly and competitive fixtures, matches and golf tours.
- Build partnerships with local golf clubs and training facilities.
- Raise the profile of The Grove Golf Academy locally and nationally.
- Support recruitment of talented young golfers to the school community.
Holiday Camps, Workshops & Commercial Development
- Design and deliver golf camps and specialist workshops during school holidays for Grove students and external participants.
- Develop themed camps for beginners, development players and performance golfers.
- Actively market and promote holiday camps and facility usage to maximise participation and revenue.
- Drive commercial use of the Academy facilities during school holidays, including course partnerships, Trackman sessions and external bookings.
- Contribute to the long-term financial sustainability and growth of the Academy.
- Ensure correct billing for golf where required is supplied to finance department.
Pastoral & Educational Contribution
- Promote character development, resilience and sportsmanship.
- Support pupils in balancing academic and sporting commitments.
- Contribute to the wider sporting life of the school community.
T h e I d e a l C a n d i d a t e
We are seeking a candidate who:
- Is a fully qualified PGA Professional (essential).
- Has experience coaching both beginners and elite junior golfers.
- Understands long-term athlete development models.
- Has experience working with youth athletes in an educational setting (desirable).
- Is visionary, entrepreneurial and excited to build a programme from the ground up.
- Demonstrates excellent organisational and communication skills.
- Is passionate about mentoring young people both on and off the course.
- Is confident integrating performance data and technology into coaching practice.
