Role Overview

DaVita is seeking a senior pharmacist to provide advanced clinical, governance, and operational pharmacy leadership in accordance with GPhC professional standards, MHRA regulatory requirements, DaVita policies and NHS policies. The postholder will lead on internal medicines management, procurement oversight, patient safety functions, policy development, and the delivery of specialist pharmaceutical advice to clinical and non-clinical stakeholders. This role covers all our clinics nationwide.

Medicines Procurement & Supply Governance

  • Provide senior oversight of procurement options, ensuring cost-effective, evidence-based sourcing of medicines in line with national frameworks, local contracts, and NHS Procurement & Commercial Standards.
  • Assess and authorise therapeutic or pharmaceutical substitutions, ensuring clinical appropriateness, continuity of care, and compliance with MHRA guidance and GPhC standards.
  • Liaise with procurement teams, suppliers, and clinical leads to mitigate supply risks and ensure resilient medicines availability.

MHRA Alerts & Regulatory Compliance

  • Review, interpret, and act upon MHRA Drug Safety Updates, CAS/MHRA alerts, Field Safety Notices, and recalls.
  • Coordinate timely organisational responses, including identification of affected stock, risk communication, and implementation of required actions.
  • Maintain audit-ready documentation demonstrating regulatory compliance and governance oversight.

Audits, Patient Safety & Governance

  • Lead pharmacy-related clinical audits, quality improvement activities, and medicines optimisation projects.
  • Support medication safety processes, including incident investigation, trend review, and the development of risk-reduction strategies.
  • Contribute to organisational Patient Safety Reviews and the Integrated Governance Committee, providing expert pharmaceutical input.
  • Ensure continuous alignment with local and national governance requirements, NICE guidance, and NHS England Medicines Optimisation priorities.

Education, Training & Medicines Management Teaching

  • Deliver structured teaching on medicines management principles, safe prescribing, administration, and handling of medicines to multidisciplinary teams.
  • Contribute to the education of nursing staff.
  • Support competency assessment and CPD activities relating to medicines optimisation and safety.

Policy Development & Strategic Role

  • Lead the development, review, and implementation of pharmacy and medicines-related policies, SOPs, and guidelines.
  • Provide senior-level input to clinical service design, formulary decisions, and organisational strategic planning related to pharmaceutical care.
  • Ensure policies reflect legal frameworks, national standards, and best practice.

Pharmaceutical Advice for Contract & Service Management

  • Provide expert pharmaceutical guidance to contract negotiations, contract managers, and service leads.
  • Review contractual specifications for pharmaceutical services and advise on quality indicators, risk management, and cost-effective prescribing.

Clinical & Professional Leadership

  • Act as a role model demonstrating advanced pharmacy practice, professional integrity, and adherence to GPhC standards.
  • Provide senior clinical support within designated specialties, including complex medication reviews and MDT collaboration.
  • Contribute to workforce development, supervision, mentoring, and succession planning.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Pharmacy (MPharm) or equivalent.
  • GPhC registration as a Pharmacist.
  • Postgraduate clinical or management qualification desirable.
  • Significant post-registration experience within NHS services.
  • Demonstrated expertise in governance, procurement, and regulatory compliance.
