WATER IRRIGATION TECHNICIAN (TREE NURSERY)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Install, operate, monitor, and maintain irrigation systems across the nursery.
- Schedule and adjust irrigation cycles based on seasonal needs, soil conditions, and tree species.
- Identify and repair leaks, clogs, or malfunctioning irrigation components (valves, emitters, pumps, etc.).
- Monitor tree health and soil moisture levels to ensure optimal growth conditions.
- Work closely with nursery staff to align irrigation plans with planting, fertilizing, and pest control activities.
- Maintain accurate irrigation logs and system maintenance records.
- Assist with general nursery operations as needed, including tree planting, pruning, and transplanting.
- Ensure water usage is efficient and in compliance with local regulations and sustainability goals.
REQUIREMENTS
- Proven experience in irrigation system maintenance, preferably in a nursery or agricultural setting.
- Understanding of horticulture, particularly in relation to tree species and their water needs.
- Ability to diagnose and repair irrigation issues efficiently.
- Familiarity with automated and manual irrigation systems.
- Physically fit and able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Strong attention to detail, time management, and organisational skills.
- Valid driver’s licence
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (NOT ESSENTIAL)
- Certificate or diploma in horticulture, agriculture, irrigation technology, or related field.
- Experience with water conservation methods and technologies.
- Knowledge of fertigation and integrated pest management (IPM) practices.
