Title: Electricity Design Engineer
Reports to: Pre-Construction Director
Based at: Head Office - Cardiff City Centre
Hours: 37.5 per week
Summary of role
Undertake the design of electricity infrastructure projects across the Company’s portfolio of commercial and residential new development schemes. Throughout the project lifecycle, the Electricity Design Engineer will ensure that any costing mechanisms and designs are technically and commercially compliant and delivered within agreed timescales. They will provide a focal point to the Company across all electricity infrastructure aspects ensuring that standards are met operationally to ensure compliance with network owners and Company accreditations.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities
- Create electricity designs and associated information compliant with all relevant Codes of Practice, Company and industry standards
- Produce information to ensure electricity costing mechanisms are fit for purpose and reflect operational and customer requirements
- Create CAD drawings using company standard templates
- Coordinate the electrical design process with other contracted utility products.
- Communicate with the upstream and adopting electricity DNOs/iDNOs throughout design lifecycle
- Manage Customer expectations throughout the project design lifecycle
- Report project progress and performance to the wider project team
- Complete variations to electricity designs in accordance with Company procedures
- Produce electricity enquiry costings and project budgets in line with commercial procedures
- Contribute to NERS accreditation and associated working group
- Support and develop other members of the business to enhance their electrical technical knowledge and experience
- Completing all electronic and paper forms in line with defined Company procedures
- Take ownership to resolve Health, Safety and Environment, engineering, customer satisfaction & product quality problems
- Maintaining Company SHEQ standards, interacting with Company systems to ensure continued compliance with legislation and industry standards

Can analyse and identify trends from information sources and able to make decisive decisions for the betterment of delivery and business development.
Computer skills
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and relevant electricity design programs.
Literacy and Numeracy
Able to produce clear, concise and accurate written communications through all aspects of the enquiry and design lifecycle.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- Relevant qualifications relating to design of distribution electricity networks up to 11kV.
- Working knowledge of CAD systems
- Working knowledge of WinDebut.
- Able to demonstrate required capability to be deemed competent to create electricity designs in line with NERS scheme requirements.
- Knowledge and understanding of NERS accreditation process.
- Understanding and awareness of customer service and its impact on business growth.
- Knowledge and awareness of continuous improvement within existing and new processes.
- Knowledge of both DNO/iDNO standards and working practices.
- Knowledge of pre-construction and feasibility within utilities sector.
- Working knowledge of current relevant legislation, technical standards and specifications
Desirable
- Able to demonstrate required capability to be deemed competent to approve electricity designs in line with NERS scheme requirements.
- Full valid UK Driving Licence
