Supported Living Support workers

Wilbury Crescent is a regulated supported living service delivered by [Employer hidden — view at passion-project.co.uk], specialising in trauma-informed, PBS-led care for adults with: - Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) - Mental health conditions including schizophrenia, PTSD, OCD, and mood disorders - Learning disabilities and forensic or safeguarding risks - Histories of trauma, emotional dysregulation, hoarding behaviours, and self-neglect This service provides high staff-to-client ratios, CCTV-monitored communal areas, and robust risk management and safeguarding structures.

To deliver high-quality, safe, person-centred care and support that empowers individuals with complex mental health and behavioural needs to live independently, safely, and with dignity in a supported community setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate, trauma-aware care, including emotional reassurance, personal care, and daily living assistance
  • Support individuals in achieving independence, engaging in meaningful activities, and building self-regulation skills
  • Implement Positive Behavioural Support (PBS) plans and respond to crisis situations with calm, low-arousal approaches
  • Use visual prompts, structured routines, and communication aids (e.g., Makaton, now/next boards)
  • Monitor and report on client wellbeing using the Birdie system and daily observation logs
  • Maintain consistent routines, support with medication (as trained), and ensure safe use of hoists and assistive equipment
  • Encourage de-escalation and therapeutic rapport in response to emotional distress, shouting, disinhibited or unsafe behaviour
  • Support outings, shopping, meal prep, and re-engagement with community safely and meaningfully
  • Uphold safeguarding, dignity, privacy, and professional boundaries at all times

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience supporting people with complex needs (autism, mental health, forensic backgrounds, etc.)
  • Sound understanding of safeguarding and risk in supported living
  • Calm, professional approach to distressed behaviours, shouting, hoarding, or non-compliance
  • Ability to follow routines and respond to individuals in a respectful and proactive way
  • Clear written and verbal communication; confident using care management systems
  • Willingness to use and be trained on CCTV-assisted supervision protocols (communal areas only)

Required Training & Qualifications

  • Care Certificate or equivalent (or willingness to complete)
  • PMVA or equivalent positive behaviour training (desirable)
  • Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training (Tier 1 or 2) or willingness to attend
  • Safeguarding Level 2/3, Medication Awareness, Infection Control, Basic Life Support
  • Autism/PBS training and hoisting/manual handling (can be provided in-house)

Essential requirements

  • 6+ months experience in healthcare sector in the UK
  • Driving license (owned transport required)
  • Palliative and End of Life Care experience
  • Suctioning and Dysphagia experience
  • Catheter Care Experience
  • PEG & RIG Feeding Experience
