Specialist Environmental Consultant - Interconnectors & Cables

[Employer hidden — view at passion-project.co.uk] has been retained by a leading energy consultancy, headquartered in the UK, to appoint a Specialist Environmental Consultant, focusing on marine EIA and consenting work on behalf of interconnector and cables client.

You will be instrumental in further expanding this delivery line, leveraging your industry contacts and expertise to identify future opportunities and support business development. You’ll also provide technical QA/QC of deliverables, be a trusted Subject Matter Expert for our team and our clients, and help mentor and upskill junior team members.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as sponsor/director-level lead for major subsea cable projects.
  • Provide strategic oversight and expert input into marine licensing and environmental assessments.
  • Lead client relationships and business development initiatives.
  • Ensure quality assurance of complex deliverables and project outputs.
  • Guide and mentor team members, fostering technical excellence.

Required Experience

  • Strategic experience in landfall site selection and cable routeing.
  • Leadership in managing marine licence condition discharge and consent plans.
  • Experience with DCO processes and installation-phase consent management.
  • Subject expertise in marine ecology, ornithology, geology, or navigation.

Background

  • Extensive experience leading development and consenting of major subsea cable projects.
  • Expert-level knowledge of UK marine consenting regimes and legislation (Marine Licensing, UNCLOS, seabed leasing, protected species licensing).
  • Deep expertise in subsea cable technologies and installation methodologies.
  • Proven track record in producing Scoping Reports, EIAs, and Habitats Regulations reports.
  • Strong commercial acumen and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Exceptional technical writing and communication abilities.
