School Maintenance Operative

We are looking for a reliable, skilled, and proactive School Maintenance Operative to support the safe and effective operation of two specialist education sites. This is a practical, hands-on role where your work will have a direct and meaningful impact on pupils, staff, and visitors every day.

The Role

Working closely with school leadership and the estates team, you will help maintain a safe, welcoming, and well-presented environment across both sites. The role includes both planned and reactive maintenance tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out and accurately record routine health and safety checks, including fire alarms, emergency lighting, playground equipment, and legionella prevention
  • Complete a wide range of general maintenance tasks, including basic carpentry, plumbing, painting, and minor repairs
  • Plan and deliver a rolling programme of decoration, primarily during school holidays
  • Supervise external contractors on site, ensuring work is completed safely and to a high standard
  • Maintain school grounds, including grass cutting, hedge trimming, and general upkeep as required
  • Keep pathways, entrances, and outdoor areas clear of leaves, moss, snow, and ice to ensure safe access
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties requested by senior leadership or the estates team
