We’re recruiting a Senior Engineer (Highways & Development Control) for a hybrid contract role in London, starting January 2026. This role sits within a Highways Development Control team and would suit someone with strong local authority experience who is confident acting as a statutory consultee on planning applications.
Key responsibilities:
- Reviewing and responding to planning applications with transport impact
- Acting as statutory consultee for highways and transport matters
- Authorising and monitoring highway works, including S278 / S38 agreements
- Supporting construction management plans, travel plans, and highways adoption
- Deputising for senior management when required
- Working closely with planners, developers, and internal stakeholders
- Delivering a high standard of customer and stakeholder engagement
Key requirements:
- Proven experience in Highways Development Control within a UK local authority
- Strong knowledge of S278 / S38, planning processes, and highways adoption
- Ability to manage multiple applications and stakeholder relationships
- Full UK driving licence
- Eligible to work in the UK
- Willing to undergo DBS (or already hold one)
