Senior Engineer – Highways & Development Control (Contract) in Wolverhampton

We’re recruiting a Senior Engineer (Highways & Development Control) for a hybrid contract role in London, starting January 2026. This role sits within a Highways Development Control team and would suit someone with strong local authority experience who is confident acting as a statutory consultee on planning applications.

Key responsibilities:

  • Reviewing and responding to planning applications with transport impact
  • Acting as statutory consultee for highways and transport matters
  • Authorising and monitoring highway works, including S278 / S38 agreements
  • Supporting construction management plans, travel plans, and highways adoption
  • Deputising for senior management when required
  • Working closely with planners, developers, and internal stakeholders
  • Delivering a high standard of customer and stakeholder engagement

Key requirements:

  • Proven experience in Highways Development Control within a UK local authority
  • Strong knowledge of S278 / S38, planning processes, and highways adoption
  • Ability to manage multiple applications and stakeholder relationships
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Eligible to work in the UK
  • Willing to undergo DBS (or already hold one)
