FULL DESCRIPTION

[Employer hidden — view at passion-project.co.uk] is seeking volunteers for their Outpatient Department. Volunteers will create a positive environment, serve refreshments, distribute information, meet service users, and adhere to hospice policies. The role requires excellent interpersonal skills, a sensitive approach, and a commitment to teamwork. Shifts are a minimum of 3 or 4 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with a minimum commitment of 12 months. A PVG check is required.

[Employer hidden] is a registered charity providing specialist palliative care for patients with life-limiting conditions which require complex symptom management, and/or end-of-life care. It is Lanarkshire’s specialist hospice and provides multidisciplinary support for patients, their families and carers. The service is provided completely free of charge for the adult population of North and South Lanarkshire and is open to all without distinction of race, gender or creed.

What is the role?

You will:

  • Create a safe, respectful, and positive environment for patients, families and carers
  • Make and serve refreshments
  • Distribute information leaflets
  • Meet and greet service users
  • Respect service user confidentiality and individual needs
  • Carry out other tasks as required by the Outpatients and Community Manager
  • Attend relevant training and team meetings
  • Adhere to the relevant policies and procedures of the hospice

What skills and/or experience do you need?

You should be able to demonstrate:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Be a great listener and enjoy meeting new people
  • Possess a sensitive and calm approach to situations
  • Ability to cope in emotional and, sometimes, distressing situations
  • Be a team player and willing to work within guidelines provided but also be responsive to patients’ needs as they arise
  • A high degree of self-awareness
  • Be responsible and reliable
  • Willingness to uphold the values of the hospice

 What are the time commitments?

  • Shifts minimum of 3 or 4 hours per week
  • Flexible shifts available Monday to Friday
  • Minimum commitment of 12 months
