Position Summary:
As a Fitter/Machinist, you will be responsible for fabricating, fitting, and machining precision components for marine applications. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills, a keen eye for detail, and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Machining Tasks:
- Operate lathes, milling machines, and other equipment to machine parts to exact specifications.
- Perform precision measurements and ensure compliance with engineering drawings and standards.
- Fitting Tasks:
- Assemble and fit mechanical components and systems for marine applications.
- Conduct repairs, adjustments, and alignments to ensure operational functionality.
- Fabrication:
- Perform light fabrication tasks, including cutting, drilling, and shaping materials.
- Work with metals such as steel, aluminium, and other materials used in marine engineering.
- Maintenance and Repairs:
- Conduct preventative maintenance and diagnose faults on mechanical systems.
- Repair or replace defective parts as required to restore functionality.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with engineers, welders, and other team members to ensure project success.
- Communicate effectively to resolve technical challenges and meet deadlines.
- Compliance:
- Adhere to health and safety regulations and ensure all work meets quality standards.
- Complete necessary documentation for tasks performed and maintain an organized workspace.
Key Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a fitter, machinist, or similar role, preferably within the engineering or marine sectors.
- Proficient in operating lathes, milling machines, and other machining equipment.
- Ability to interpret and work from technical drawings and specifications.
- Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations and best practices.
- Team-oriented mindset with effective communication skills.
- Relevant certifications in machining or mechanical engineering are desirable but not essential.
