Switchgear Assembly Technician

The primary objective of the Switchgear Assembly Technician is to assemble, wire, and test low voltage switchgear panels in compliance with technical specifications, ISO-certified Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001), and relevant industry standards. Achieving on-time completion of panel assemblies while maintaining high-quality standards is critical to supporting the company’s production schedules and customer requirements.
A key result is ensuring that all wiring, cable routing, and component installation meet design specifications and are completed with precision, minimising defects or rework. The technician is also responsible for conducting self-checks and supporting testing activities to verify electrical and mechanical functionality, contributing to a high first-pass yield rate for completed panels.
Another important objective is adherence to Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) standards as per ISO 45001, ensuring a safe and organised work environment. The technician plays an active role in continuous improvement initiatives, providing feedback on processes, tooling, and workflow to enhance efficiency and product quality.
Overall, success in this role is measured by the technician’s ability to deliver high-quality panels on time, maintain compliance with ISO and industry standards, and contribute to the company’s culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
Key Tasks
Panel Assembly and Wiring:
- Assemble and wire low voltage switchgear panels according to technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and work instructions.
- Accurately mount and secure components such as breakers, contactors, and busbars in line with design specifications.
- Ensure proper cable routing, labelling, and termination of wires to meet design and safety standards.
Quality and Compliance:
- Conduct assembly and wiring activities in compliance with ISO 9001 quality standards and company policies.
- Follow procedures to ensure adherence to relevant standards such as IEC and UL.
- Perform visual inspections and self-checks to confirm proper assembly and wiring before final quality checks.
Testing and Verification:
- Assist in testing electrical and mechanical functionality of completed panels, identifying and rectifying faults as needed.
- Ensure all testing is documented in compliance with ISO procedures.
Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Compliance:
- Adhere to ISO 45001 Health and Safety Management System requirements.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment, ensuring compliance with safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Report hazards, incidents, or non-conformities promptly to the supervisor.
Documentation and Records:
- Maintain accurate records of assembly and wiring tasks as required by the QMS.
- Complete work order documentation and record any deviations or issues encountered during assembly.
Continuous Improvement:
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing product quality and assembly efficiency.
- Provide feedback on process improvements and tooling requirements to support lean manufacturing goals.
