Kitchen Assistant / Support

We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Kitchen Assistant to join our catering team, supporting the preparation and service of nutritious meals for residents in care homes. The role is essential in maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient kitchen environment while ensuring residents receive high-quality food.

This position is ideal for candidates who enjoy kitchen work, are detail-oriented, and have a commitment to hygiene and safety standards.

About the Role

  • Food Preparation Support
  • Assist in preparing ingredients and simple meals under the supervision of the Chef.
  • Support cooking processes and portion meals as required.
  • Kitchen & Equipment Maintenance
  • Maintain a clean and hygienic kitchen environment.
  • Wash, dry, and store kitchen utensils, pots, pans, and equipment safely.
  • Ensure work surfaces, floors, and storage areas are clean and organised.
  • Stock & Inventory
  • Monitor food and supply stock levels and report shortages to the Chef.
  • Assist with receiving deliveries and storing items correctly.
  • Waste Management & Safety
  • Dispose of food waste and rubbish according to hygiene and environmental standards.
  • Follow all health & safety, food hygiene, and infection control procedures.
  • Team Collaboration
  • Work effectively as part of the kitchen and care home team.
  • Support colleagues and respond to requests promptly to ensure smooth kitchen operations.

Qualifications & Experience Required:

  • Basic food hygiene knowledge or willingness to complete Level 2 Food Hygiene training.
  • Previous kitchen or catering experience preferred but not essential.

Preferred (Training Provided if Needed):

  • Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate
  • IDDSI awareness for care home dietary needs
  • Experience or training in safe food handling and allergen management
