Kitchen Assistant / Support
We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Kitchen Assistant to join our catering team, supporting the preparation and service of nutritious meals for residents in care homes. The role is essential in maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient kitchen environment while ensuring residents receive high-quality food.
This position is ideal for candidates who enjoy kitchen work, are detail-oriented, and have a commitment to hygiene and safety standards.
About the Role
- Food Preparation Support
- Assist in preparing ingredients and simple meals under the supervision of the Chef.
- Support cooking processes and portion meals as required.
- Kitchen & Equipment Maintenance
- Maintain a clean and hygienic kitchen environment.
- Wash, dry, and store kitchen utensils, pots, pans, and equipment safely.
- Ensure work surfaces, floors, and storage areas are clean and organised.
- Stock & Inventory
- Monitor food and supply stock levels and report shortages to the Chef.
- Assist with receiving deliveries and storing items correctly.
- Waste Management & Safety
- Dispose of food waste and rubbish according to hygiene and environmental standards.
- Follow all health & safety, food hygiene, and infection control procedures.
- Team Collaboration
- Work effectively as part of the kitchen and care home team.
- Support colleagues and respond to requests promptly to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
Qualifications & Experience Required:
- Basic food hygiene knowledge or willingness to complete Level 2 Food Hygiene training.
- Previous kitchen or catering experience preferred but not essential.
Preferred (Training Provided if Needed):
- Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate
- IDDSI awareness for care home dietary needs
- Experience or training in safe food handling and allergen management
