Lead Online Programmer

Summary

IO Interactive is looking for a Lead Online Programmer to join their team working on Project Fantasy. This role involves leading a team, designing and implementing scalable cloud systems, and mentoring team members. The position is based in one of their studios (Malmö, Barcelona, Istanbul, or Brighton), with the option to work from home up to one day per week.

Key Responsibilities/Duties

• Collaborate with Directors to define the online game vision and break it down into actionable goals, ensuring alignment with the overall project objectives.
• Lead the team in designing and implementing scalable cloud systems and online features, ensuring they meet technical and project requirements.
• Oversee and mentor team members, conducting regular 1:1s to provide feedback, guide personal development, and ensure goals are met.
• Foster a collaborative environment by encouraging cross-discipline communication and creating efficient workflows with other teams.
• Drive best practices in cloud technologies, security, and development efficiency, ensuring your team delivers high-quality results.
• Play an active role in recruitment and onboarding, helping to build a strong, skilled team.
• Provide input on team performance and contribute to evaluations, helping shape career growth and progression.

Core Requirements/Qualifications/Skills

• You have significant experience leading teams in online services and cloud infrastructure, with a proven ability to guide and develop teams in game development. You have strong leadership skills, with a focus on mentoring, coaching, and providing regular feedback to help your team succeed.
• You have strong experience in C++. Experience with modern C#/.NET technologies (such as asp.net) would be highly valued.
• Experience in scalable production systems. Proficient with at least one the major cloud vendors (GCP, AWS, Azure), it is plus if you have knowledge in more than one.
• You are a strong communicator who fosters collaboration and creates a supportive, productive work environment.
