Summary

Black & White Engineering (B&W) is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their team in the North East. The role involves leading projects, working with the management team, and providing technical and design support for commercial, mixed-use, and residential projects. The engineer will be responsible for delivering excellent service to clients and contributing to the business's growth.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Contributing to project objectives, including providing technical support
  • Working with other senior engineers and less senior positions to ensure quality and timely operation delivery for clients
  • Compiling specifications, drawings, and relevant contract documents, maintaining the required technical quality of work, ensuring that designs comply with the relevant codes, standards, regulations and procedures
  • Delivering elements and components of projects from concept design through to completion, executing Building Services Engineering activities within the budget and schedule, whilst maintaining technical integrity
  • Providing Mechanical Building Services Engineering design to buildings and infrastructure

Core Requirements include:

  • A relevant degree in Mechanical and/or Building Services Engineering, or equivalent qualification or sufficient suitable experience
  • At least 5 years’ experience working in an MEP design consultancy
  • Ability to demonstrate extensive experience in a wide range of technical areas
  • Sound level of knowledge at the senior engineer level and managing a team
  • An appreciation of complementary specialisms such as acoustics, fire engineering, and computer modelling in the design of buildings
  • Associate or student member of an appropriate professional body such as CIBSE, IET
  • Achieved or working towards Chartered Engineer status

Due to our continued growth, we are looking to recruit a Senior Mechanical Engineer within our commercial sector, to work as part of a young, energetic, and vibrant team on a number of already-secured, technically-challenging commercial, mixed-use, and residential projects within the North East region.

You will be undertaking a lead role in the buildings team, working collaboratively and closely with the management team on strategic development and growth. This role involves operating and representing Black & White in a client-facing capacity, whilst managing and mentoring staff.

We’re looking for an experienced engineering professional to provide sound technical, design, and contract management support on Mechanical Building Services Engineering disciplines, to ensure project requirements and clients’ specifications are fully met.

Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the team to ensure successful preparation and delivery of project objectives, including providing technical support
  • Works with other senior engineers and less senior positions to ensure quality and timely operation delivery for clients
  • Compiles specifications, drawings, and relevant contract documents, maintaining the required technical quality of work, ensuring that designs comply with the relevant codes, standards, regulations and procedures
  • Delivers elements and components of projects from concept design through to completion, executing Building Services Engineering activities within the budget and schedule, whilst maintaining technical integrity
  • Provides Mechanical Building Services Engineering design to buildings and infrastructure
  • Identifies scope and scheduling changes in accordance with the change control process, maintaining planning and cost control on all scope

Qualifications

  • A relevant degree in Mechanical and/or Building Services Engineering, or equivalent qualification or sufficient suitable experience
  • At least 5 years’ experience working in an MEP design consultancy
  • Ability to demonstrate extensive experience in a wide range of technical areas
  • Sound level of knowledge at the senior engineer level and managing a team
  • An appreciation of complementary specialisms such as acoustics, fire engineering, and computer modelling in the design of buildings
  • Associate or student member of an appropriate professional body such as CIBSE, IET
  • Achieved or working towards Chartered Engineer status
  • Technical mechanical knowledge and a thorough understanding of Building Services Engineering and interdisciplinary design through all stages of the design process
  • Results-oriented approach with strong problem-solving, technical realisation, and coordination skills
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written
  • Computer literacy which includes Autocad, REVIT, Navisworks, IES, Hevacomp, and Microsoft Office
  • Current UK driving licence
