Summary
The Educational Welfare Officer (EWO) will work across the Trust’s schools to improve attendance, reduce persistent absence, and support families in overcoming barriers to education. The role requires proactive engagement with students, parents and carers, school staff, and external agencies to ensure that all pupils attend school regularly and benefit from high-quality education.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with school attendance teams to identify and support students at risk of poor attendance.
- Develop and implement intervention plans for students who are persistently absent.
- Conduct home visits where necessary to support parental engagement and reintegration into school.
- Work directly with families to identify barriers to attendance and provide tailored support.
- Signpost families to external agencies and support networks where needed.
- Ensure that all interventions comply with legal attendance frameworks, safeguarding policies, and trust-wide procedures.
- Work with safeguarding teams to address attendance concerns linked to welfare issues.
- Liaise with external agencies such as social services, CAMHS, and early help teams.
- Attend and contribute to multi-agency meetings, including case conferences and safeguarding panels.
- Use attendance data to track progress, identify trends, and evaluate the impact of interventions.
- Provide regular reports to the Trust Attendance Lead and school leadership teams.

- Experience in attendance and welfare work within education.
- Strong knowledge of attendance legislation and safeguarding procedures.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work independently and to travel across multiple sites.
- Experience working with vulnerable families

Person Specification
Essential:
- Experience in attendance and welfare work within education.
- Strong knowledge of attendance legislation and safeguarding procedures.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work independently and to travel across multiple sites.
- Experience working with vulnerable families
Desirable:
- Experience working in a multi-academy trust.
- Knowledge of attendance management systems (Bromcom).
- A relevant qualification in social work, education, or a related field.
- Experience in conducting home visits and working with vulnerable families.
