To support in maintaining a community garden and growing space alongside other local volunteers and staff.

Previous experience in gardening or growing would help but is not essential for this role. We are here to support those who would like to expand their knowledge and learn new skills.

Tasks and responsibilities

To volunteer as part of a group to plan, plant, and maintain a community food growing garden, this will include:

  • seed sowing in a polytunnel or directly into beds
  • weeding
  • pruning
  • watering
  • growing structure to support climbing plants
  • cloches and fleeces to protect against frost and extend the season
  • harvesting
  • composting
  • soil improvement

The produce will be shared between the gardening group and can be used to contribute to the local community pantry.

Skills and experience

Previous experience in gardening or growing would help but is not essential for this role. We are here to support those who would like to expand their knowledge and learn new skills.

Time commitment

This is flexible but have to volunteer when the library is open. The library opens Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10am to 5pm and also on a Saturday from 10am to 1pm.
