FULL DESCRIPTION

Summary

To manage and produce detail plant designs for projects ranging from LV-33kV with support from senior team member(s)/ design manager. To provide assistance to delivery teams to ensure the design is delivered as intended. Candidate must have right to work in UK.

Key Responsibilities/Duties

  • Producing preliminary and detailed engineering designs ranging from LV - 33kV under supervision.
  • Liaising with DNOs/IDNOs to co-ordinate design deliverables and ascertain design approval.
  • Assisting the project manager with understanding the design and with technical queries raised onsite.
  • Assist commercial team by produce quotations and tender designs when required.
  • Support more senior engineers with smaller design tasks and CAD technician work.

Core Requirements/Qualifications/Skills

  • Basic understanding of Electrical Distribution Design up to and including 33kV
  • Experienced in using AutoCAD software (University/College experience is acceptable)
  • Possess a Degree/HND/HNC level qualification in a relevant Engineering subject.

Job Purpose

To manage and produce detail plant designs for projects ranging from LV-33kV with support from senior team member(s)/ design manager. To provide assistance to delivery teams to ensure the design is delivered as intended. In addition, it is expected that the trainee design engineer shall support other more senior engineers when required to do so. The support is not limited to solely design elements, but also extends to CAD work.

Provide design assistance to other departments within the company (i.e., tendering).

Candidate must have right to work in UK.

☞ Majority of the designs produce will need to comply with DNO/IDNO Key standards. However, the scope for design work is not limited to Deliverable DNOs/IDNOs, the design scope on occasion will extend to private/customer networks.

☞ Producing high quality designs for approval and construction within time and budget. Providing sufficient details and accuracy on the design to allow for effective delivery by the construction team.

☞ The role requires the engineer to interact with DNOs and IDNOs. The engineer is also expected to be able to effectively communicate with all departments within the company at all levels. On occasion where support is required, he may seek the assistance of a more senior engineer or the design manager

☞ Producing detail designs for LV through to 33kV both for tender, approval, and construction.

☞ Managing external consultants when used (with support)

Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include the following.

Producing preliminary and detailed engineering designs ranging from LV - 33kV under supervision. All designs need to comply with adopting body standards in addition to British and other industry standards. Liaising with DNOs/IDNOs to co-ordinate design deliverables and ascertain design approval.

☞ Assisting the project manager with understanding the design and with technical queries raised onsite.

☞ Assist commercial team by produce quotations and tender designs when required.

☞ Support more senior engineers with smaller design tasks and CAD technician work.

☞ Defining all key electrical items as part of the design, sufficiently detailed to allowed others to place orders.

☞ Provide assistance to project manager or procurement staff when required.

☞ Further develop understanding of Electrical Substation plant designing principals and develop understanding of DNO/IDNO standards. It is required that the engineer manages self-development.

☞ To carry out role in compliance with the Company’s Design Process

☞ To carry out any other reasonable duties as required by the business

☞ Site visit for data collection, to perform soil resistivity and FOP.

Qualifications and Experience

☞ A highly motivated individual with excellent interpersonal skills

☞ Possess excellent communication skills

☞ Basic understanding of Electrical Distribution Design up to and including 33kV

☞ Possess the willingness to learn and develop.

☞ Ability to manage workload and high-pressure situations.

☞ Possess a Degree/HND/HNC level qualification in a relevant Engineering subject.

☞ Experienced in using AutoCAD software (University/College experience is acceptable)

☞ Possess a clean current driving licence

2 or 3 years of experience required but engineers need to possess the capacity to learn and progress.
