FULL DESCRIPTION
Summary
Provide personal care and practical assistance to service users in their own homes, including assistance with personal hygiene, meal preparation, medication administration, and household tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide personal care and practical assistance to service users in their own homes i.e., Assist with getting in/out of bed, getting to the toilet, moving around indoors, eating, washing and dressing.
- Assist with the management of continence and with personal hygiene in connection with continence.
- Ensure service users are encouraged and supported to retain maximum levels of independence.
- Assist with catheter care i.e., change Catheter Bags as necessary, assist with the application of leg straps or appropriate bag holder, assist with maintenance of genital hygiene.
- Assist service users to empty and change Stoma bags.
- Prepare and cook light meals, taking into consideration dietary requirements, preparing solid or liquidised food, mashed, or cut if required.
- Assist service users who may require specific feeding by mouth and assist them to use appropriate/prescribed equipment.
- Assist with specialist skin care e.g. application of emollients/moisturisers to dry skin. Application of prescribed creams in accordance with guidance from care supervisors and District Nurses.
- Assist service users to self-administer medication by a medical or dental practitioner or over the counter medications correctly as well as Instil eye drops and ear drops.
- Assist the service user with safe use of oxygen as prescribed.
- Assist service users with personal laundry as required
- Perform practical household tasks to maintain essential hygiene within the home.
- To set and light solid fuel fires where this is the primary means of heating within the home.
- Enable service users to maintain household management and security of their premises and reminding service users to pay bills, ensuring that doors are closed securely etc.
- Act as an escort for service users who, for example, require attending local medical services or social outings.
- Protect service users and self from injury by being aware of risk assessment information and correct use of moving and handling techniques.
- Keep the Care Supervisor informed regarding changes in circumstances relating to the service user.
